Setelah menyelesaikan pendidikan Doktornya di Amerika Serikat, Prof Hamam pada tahun 1998 mendirikan dan menjadi Ketua Program Magister (S2) Gizi Kesehatan, Fakultas Kedokteran (FK) UGM sampai dengan Januari tahun 2015. Tahun 2000-2003, Prof Hamam mendirikan dan menjadi Ketua Program Studi D4 Gizi FK UGM, dan tahun 2003-2009 Prof Hamam mendirikan dan memimpin Program Studi S1, FK UGM. Karir dan kontribusi Prof Hamam dalam pengembangan Ilmu Gizi Indonesia dilengkapi dengan peran beliau sebagai pendiri dan Direktur Pusat Kesehatan dan Gizi Manusia
